Our Environmental Education
AVON TYRRELL IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE ARE NOW AN OFFICIAL 'LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM' CENTRE, HAVING JUST BEEN AWARDED THE LOTC BADGE.
Set within the boundaries of the New Forest National Park, Avon Tyrrell boasts a wide variety of habitats (including Lakes, Wetland, Heathland, Coniferous and mixed woodland) as well as direct access onto the open New Forest. We have abundant wildlife around site, including Fallow deer, Tawny owls, Grass snakes, Sand lizards and 7 different species of bat to name just a few. In addition, in 2009 our Strawbale, ‘eco–classroom’ base was finished which was needed for our field study activities. Our Strawbale classroom was entered into the Sustainable Business Awards 2009/2010 and we are proud to say that we won the recognition of excellence award in the fields of economic, social and environmental sustainability.
So whether you are young or old, visiting for a day or a week we have something to suit your needs.
Safety is a prioirty, so all activities are led by qualified and experienced leaders and our ratios range from 1:8 for activities such as friction fire lighting, to 1:35 for classroom based actvities, although for all session we still require your group to provide an adult leader/teacher in line with council recommendations.
