How Does My Garden Grow
A full day of activities specially designed to explore the secret life of plants. The day starts off in the environment centre with a brief discussion of plants and the group taking on the role of the different parts in order to create a ‘human’ plant.
The group then explore different habitats in search of as many different types of plant as they can find. In small groups they will compare the plants and show their findings to other groups. Once the groups have shown their plants to each other, they will have the opportunity to try some wild foods that are provided by some of the plants that grow within Avon Tyrrell.
The group then take part in a role play game in order to discover how plants work, they do this by taking on the role of the roots, sap wood, leaves, etc gradually the group will become a complete tree and experience its internal workings.
Next, we move onto seeds and the different stages of growth and the life cycle of plants, where they will also have the chance to plant their own seeds to take home and hunt for lots of different types of seeds around site.
Finally we end the day with a fun activity that allows the children to connect with nature and brings together what they have learnt during the day.
