In partnership with Kingston Maurward College, Avon Tyrrell offers Traineeship programmes designed to provide young people with skills that employers look for, meaningful work experience opportunities and support in their first steps into employment.

Course Location: Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre
With access to a range of disciplines you will have the chance to focus your Traineeship on one of the following areas:
Outdoor Activities | Business Admin/Customer Service | Maintenance | Catering
As a small provider we have the ability to offer a personalised approach to your Traineeship. We can offer a wide range of options for you to consider allowing you to choose a combination of the above if you wish.
We are able to do this by a series of workshops, training and work experience with one of our teams here at Avon Tyrrell. All Traineeship Programmes at Avon Tyrrell will help build:
- Employability Skills
- Interview Skills
- Confidence
- Self Esteem
- Courses, where required, will also cover Functional Skills in Maths and English.
Your chosen route
Depending on your chosen route, you will have the opportunity to gain Active IQ Level 1 and Level 2 Awards - focusing on your chosen field as well as general employability skills, and Functional Skills tutorials where necessary.
Work Experience
As well as offering a range of qualifications, work experience is also a key aspect of your Traineeship, providing you with practical work based learning so that you can add depth to you CV and demonstrate the skills and competencies needed in the workplace.
At Avon Tyrrell you will have the opportunity to undertake a minimum of 30 hours work experience in either a range of roles, or on a selected specialist area

Our activities team deliver a whole range of activities from High Ropes to Minibeast hunts. You will have the chance to work alongside our qualified instructors with a range of groups of different ages.
You will work alongside our instructors to inspire our users in the power of outdoor learning and gain real insights into what a career as an outdoor instructor might look like.
For those specialising in Outdoor Activities you will have the opportunity to gain:
Level 2 Award in Introductory Work in the Outdoors
BCU 1* or 2* Award (Depending on prior experience)
There are also opportunities to link onto our existing apprenticeship programme, or receive advice and guidance to find the right career path for you.
Business Admin
Our Business Admin and Guest Services team work directly with our customers from the moment they take the booking to the end of their stay. You will work alongside our team to deliver site tours, welcome talks, schedule their activity programmes and support our busy Reception team. The types of skills you will gain experience of include:

Business Admin
Finance
Once you have found your specialism or area of interest, we can work with you to find the right career path.
Maintenance
Our maintenance team keep our 100 year old house and site operational. They use a wide range of equipment and machinery on a daily basis, providing experience of plumbing, carpentry, painting and general upkeep. This pathway will allow you to gain a real understanding of a career in maintenance.
As well as getting your hands dirty you will be able to undertake a Level 2 Award in Introductory Work in the Outdoors which will showcase the work you have done as well as add to your qualifications portfolio.
Catering
Our Catering and hospitality team produce hot meals and café style catering all year round. Experience a busy and engaging kitchen alongside out trained chefs, seeing the process from planning and purchasing, through to serving groups both large and small.
For those wishing to specialise in catering you will have chance to work with our trained catering staff and gain an understanding of the varying roles and responsibilities within a working kitchen.
You will have the opportunity to gain a food hygiene qualification and build a wealth of skills to add value to your CV.
Avon Tyrrell already has a well established successful Apprenticeship Programme and is committed to providing opportunities for young people to Experience, Learn and Develop.
There is potential for some traineeship candidates to progress directly onto our Apprenticeship Programme starting in November, or for us to support you to find training or employment opportunities with other providers in your chosen field.
As part of your Traineeship you will have already developed your CV, had practical interview opportunities and receive a written testimonial regarding your skills and attributes, so the opportunities are endless.
