UK Youth has been operating at Avon Tyrrell since 1949, providing an outdoor venue for young people to experience, learn and develop. Our experience, industry expertise and dedicated staff enables us to provide a high quality service to all our guests.
Our skilled team of activity instructors play a large role in the success of the centre, supporting and encouraging young people throughout their programmes and helping them to realise their potential and develop life skills. The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority inspect the site annually and as part of the Health and Safety Executive ensures that we as an activity provider follow good safety management practices, allowing people to experience activities outdoors in a safe environment.
The Adventuremark highlights Avon Tyrrell as a provider of outdoor activities that meet the necessary standards of good practice to manage potential risks associated with outdoor adventure.
Archery GB is the governing body for Archery across the UK and Avon Tyrrell is able to provide training for this qualification enabling instructors to lead Archery sessions.
AUKAC is dedicated to promoting best practice, safety, quality and value and supports and represents Avon Tyrrell as an activity centre in the UK.
British Canoeing (previously BCU) is the lead body for canoeing and kayaking in the UK and Avon Tyrrell holds a badge as a centre that provides training under this award, regularly inspecting to ensure we meet and maintain the required standards.
The Cycling UK National Cycling Charity have recognised Avon Tyrrell as a centre for providing cycling services to the community.
Hampshire County Council Outdoor Education Service have confirmed Avon Tyrell as an approved provider for schools within Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth, West Berkshire and the Isle of Wight who work within the Employer guidance and requirements issued by Hampshire County Council.
When completing an EVOLVE approval form for your visit, you will find the status of Avon Tyrell confirmed as ‘Checked’ within the provider database. This confirms that our operating systems, policies and procedures meet the HCC requirements for good practice in the provision of outdoor adventure activities, and no additional checks of the Centre itself are necessary

The ISO 9001 accreditation recognises our quality management systems and provides the foundation to better customer satisfaction, staff motivation and continual improvement, through our facilities, people, training, services and equipment.
The Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge is the only nationally recognised indicator of good quality educational provision AND effective risk management.
The Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge helps schools to identify good quality and safe provision and aims to reduce red tape when planning educational visits.
