Geocaching Activities in the New Forest
Explore the grounds at Avon Tyrrell using a tablet which will act as your GPS system. Enter each code one by one to be lead around site on a giant hide and seek in search of our hidden containers. Once you have found each container see if you can crack the code from the numbers you have collected to reveal the answer.
Instructor Led: Yes, our instructors will provide tablets for the group to use as well as teaching you basic navigation techniques. You can choose to do this activity self-guided and packs are available from reception however you will need to provide your own tablet / phone with Google Maps.

- Closed toe shoes are advised for this activity
- Comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty.
Accessible: Our site depending on recent weather conditions can have large sections of uneven/muddy ground, discussion beforehand can help establish whether individual needs can be accommodated using either our Boma or bubble chair.
Extras: Good Introductory Activity / Exploration Activity
Skill: This activity helps support the development of learning, but in a fun experiential way. By working together in small groups this session promotes communication and cooperation.
Personal Challenge & Achievement: By allowing individuals to undertake a course or specific sections of a course depending on their age and experience allows them to feel a level of independence and a sense of achievement.
Support & Cohesion: By taking part in a shared experience, Outdoor Learning can improve group and leader familiarisation as individuals work closely together, drawing on shared memories and experiences which last beyond the experience itself.
Fitness & Wellbeing: This activity by the nature of its physicality and location promotes an appreciation of the benefits of the outdoors for wellbeing and fitness.
When incorporated as part of a development programme of activities, outdoor learning activities can support increased attainment and develop character and soft skills all of which are key life skills. Individuals will be able to recognise their own achievements and individual progression, as well as have the opportunity to develop personal qualities such as self-reliance, perseverance, self-belief and increased levels of confidence.
