  • Seasonal Outdoor Learning Instructor Department: Outdoor Learning Delivery Who We are Looking For:

    Based inside The New Forest National Park, Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre works with a wide variety of groups and provides opportunities for young people to experience, learn and develop through inclusive outdoor learning programmes.

    We are looking for individuals who have experience of delivering outdoor learning sessions to a range of ages and abilities and who hold a valid first aid certificate and at least one of the below qualifications:

    • BC Coach Award or minimum BC Paddle Sport Instructor
    • CWI Assessed or a nationally recognised Climbing qualification
    • ERCA Traditional Instructor & ERCA Rescuer
    • A nationally recognised Mountain Biking qualification
    • Archery GB instructor

     

    What we can offer you

    • Salary: £26,812.50 per annum (pro rata)
    • Hours: 37.5 hours a week
    • Start date: Various start dates available
    • Duration: Until autumn 2026
    • Accommodation: Private room in shared onsite accommodation available at £45 pw (optional)

  • Maintenance Coordinator Department: Maintenance Team Who We are Looking For:

    We are looking for a highly organised, proactive and practical Maintenance Coordinator to join our friendly maintenance team.

    This is a varied, hands-on and rewarding role for someone who enjoys solving problems, working outdoors and taking pride in maintaining high standards.

    You will play a vital role in keeping our 65-acre estate, accommodation and grounds operating smoothly so that schools, young people, groups and individuals can enjoy memorable outdoor learning experiences in a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment.

    As a charity, everything we do helps create opportunities for young people to expereince, learn and develop, building confidence and experience the outdoors. By joining our team, you will be directly contributing to that mission while building your own skills and career in a supportive environment.

    Role Overview

    • Carry out practical first-fix repairs and maintenance, where qualified or suitably trained, including basic plumbing, basic electrical work, carpentry, plastering, painting and decorating, grounds maintenance and general building tasks.
    • Support our planned maintenance programme, helping ensure routine checks, servicing and inspections are completed on time and accurately recorded.
    • Maintain tools, vehicles, plant equipment, the workshop, cellar and maintenance office to ensure the team can work safely, efficiently and professionally.
    • Help care for the estate grounds by clearing vegetation, maintaining access routes, repairing fencing, improving signage, supporting lake bailiffing activities, and keeping outdoor areas clean, safe and welcoming.
    • Provide excellent customer care by engaging politely and professionally with guests, colleagues, contractors and visitors, helping create a positive experience for everyone using the site.
    • Follow departmental SOPs, risk assessments, COSHH guidance, and all relevant Safety, Health, Environment and Fire requirements, maintaining accurate records where required.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Experience and/or qualifications across a range of general maintenance disciplines, such as plumbing, decorating, carpentry, basic electrical work, grounds maintenance or building work.
    • Experience of providing professional, friendly and helpful customer service.
    • Experience of working safely and an understanding of Safety, Health, Environment and Fire requirements, or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
    • A positive, practical approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • A willingness to learn and develop new skills through training and experience.

    Working Pattern

    This role includes working one weekend in every four, with time off in lieu provided during the week. The standard working day is 08:30–17:00.

    • Confirmation of the right to work in the UK.

Apprenticeships at Avon Tyrrell

An Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Learning Apprenticeship is a 2-year programme, and is a great way to start a career in the outdoor industry.

The paid programme is suitable for people aged 18+ and has the option for participants to live on-site. Throughout the two-years, you will gain skills, qualifications, and the confidence to run a variety of outdoor activities. 


Volunteer at Avon Tyrrell

We have lots of opportunities at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre, we welcome individuals for a few hours, corporate groups for a day or regular committed hours.

We need help with everything from clearing paths, replacing fences and even helping us to put up a new shelter. We’ve got a never-ending list of jobs!
