Lead Instructor / Instructor

Dedicated to the continuous development of young people and passionate about outdoor learning Avon Tyrrell is a charity run outdoor centre situated in The New Forest National Park on the beautiful South Coast and a fantastic place to work.

We are currently recruiting for a passionate and enthusiastic lead instructor / instructor (depending on experience) to join our team.

We offer a diverse range of onsite activities and work with a broad range of groups, offering you great opportunities to extend your knowledge, skills and experience.

Details of the Role:

Salary: £18,250 - £19,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: Full Time (42.5 hrs a week)

The person we are looking for:


  • Good knowledge of best practice in outdoor learning and adventure
  • Experience of working at an outdoor centre
  • Understanding of centre held external accreditations and a willingness to support external inspections
  • Experience of delivering quality customer service
  • Sound knowledge of outdoor activity health and safety‚Äč

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to support customer relationships to achieve positive outcomes
  • Organised with the ability to plan and prioritise, can multi task and work under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead, work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Proactive with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail and completion, ensuring quality and consistency is always maintained
  • Flexibility in approach to work and willingness to learn
  • Able to think creatively and solve problems
  • Mature and personable approach
  • Good communication and facilitation skills including a knowledgeable understanding of soft skills, reviewing and an ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Good understanding of relevant ICT software packages.
  • Hold or are actively working towards a minimum of 2 relevant NGB outdoor activity qualifications for example:
    • ERCA Traditional High Ropes Instructor
    • CWI or CWIA
    • A recognised walking / navigation qualification (For example, Lowland Leader Award)
    • A recognised mountain bike qualification (For Example MIAS Level 2)
    • Archery GB Instructor Award
    • A recognised Bushcraft / environmental qualification

  • A willingness to work unsociable hours including evenings, weekends and short periods
