Explore the world of small mammals. What is a mammal? Where do they live? And what do they eat? Prepare your mammal trapping device before heading into the woods to set your trap. When you return the next morning to collect it you will examine what you have caught and compare species before returning them to their natural habitats.

Evening Session: We meet in the Strawbale classroom to discuss and prepare the small mammal traps, ensuring that we meet all of the needs a small mammal has from their habitat.  Once they are constructed and filled we will then head into the woods to set the traps in specially selected sites.

Morning Session: In the morning we will meet back at the straw bale classroom to carefully collect in the traps that were set the previous evening.  We bring them back to the classroom to discover what mammals we have trapped.  The group will get the chance to examine the mammals close up and compare the differences between groups/species.  Once they have all been studied, we’ll return all of the mammals back to where we trapped them before playing an environmental game that explores the foods chains that small mammals are involved in (time dependant).

Duration: Each Session lasts 90 minutes

Ratios: 16:1 (Maximum of 16 Participants per Instructor)

Additional info: This session runs from March – October. We cannot guarantee that we will catch small mammals on every occasion, but instructors also set traps to extend the likelihood of success.
