Things to Do: Local Attractions in the New Forest
Avon Tyrrell provides visitors with a whole host of things to do straight from the campsite so whether you are looking to take part in on site activities, go out on the New Forest cycling and walking routes or visit nearby beaches and villages there is so much for everyone to get involved with and Avon Tyrrell is a great base for you to get out and explore.
Walks
There is certainly no shortage of interesting woodland and heathlands within the New Forest and being right by the sea, there are also numerous coastal walks. Explore the New Forest and surrounding coastal areas and stop of at some classic rural villages for a well-deserved cream tea or ice cream along the way.
Along with the stunning walks of the New Forest there are also various parks and gardens for you to explore and enjoy.
Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park (16 miles) A centre with one of Europe’s largest gatherings of Otters, Owls and indigenous wildlife in their natural environment.
Exbury Gardens (22 miles) is a spectacular 20 acre woodland garden, famous for the Rothschild collection of Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Camellias.
Moors Valley Country Park (10 miles) has a tree top trail, adventure play trail and a steam railway cafe and art gallery.
Take the kids to the beach for the day. With several close by you have plenty to choose from.
Highcliffe Beach (7 miles) with views of the Isle of Wight, mobile catering facilities, toilets and parking.
Southbourne (9 miles) boasts a quieter beach, close to Southbourne shopping area, with toilets and parking.
Boscombe Beach (11 miles) is close to Boscombe town centre, with café’s and shops. It operates a Kidzone scheme, has toilets and parking.
Bournemouth Beach (13 miles) is very busy during peak season, but has plenty of restaurants and attractions, toilets, nearby parking and also operates Kidzone.
Mudeford Quay (8 miles) offers a café, bistro, shop and fish stall. It has segregated areas for swimming, public toilets, parking and a ferry which links Hengistbury Head and Mudeford.
It is important to have a range of things for everyone to do whilst you are away and with so many opportunities in and around the New Forest, we guarantee that everyone can have a great time.
Bournemouth town (13 miles) - Bournemouth is around a 20 minute drive from Avon Tyrrell with high street shopping, restaurants, bars and other family attractions such as the Ocenarium, Pier and Amusements Arcade, Bournemouth Balloon and Crazy Golf.
New Forest Cider (3 miles) - If you’re a big Cider fan visit New Forest Cider in Burley and browse a variety of traditional produce including preserves, wines and sparkling ciders.
Ringwood Brewery (6 miles) - For the beer lovers Ringwood Brewery is worth a visit where you can take a tour and sample different New Forest beers.
Burley Fudge Shop (3 miles) - Buy some traditional handmade fudges and chocolates from.
All Fired Up (12 miles) - Bring out the artist in you and paint your own pottery at All Fired Up in Bournemouth.
Tower Park (14 miles) - Visit the South Coast's largest entertainment complex offering Cinema screens, bowling, and indoor water park and various restaurants for eating to cater for all tastes.
Paultons Park (19 miles) - Head down to Paultons Park, also home to Peppa Pig World with thrilling rides, gardens and animals.
New Forest Water Park (10miles) - New this year is the New Forest Aquapark in Fordingbridge where you can make a splash and take on the large inflatable.
Whilst Avon Tyrrell and the New Forest National Park are filled with a lot of history there are a lot of other places of interest located within. Head to Christchurch which dates back to Saxon and Norman times, with the majestic Priory Church (7 miles) and ruined castle or visit HighCliffe Castle (6 miles) built in the 1830’s by Lord Stuart de Rothesay which now hosts a range of exhibitions and events.
There are also a range of different museums within the area for different tastes including;
Beaulieu National Motor Museum (17 miles) - Beaulieu boasts a unique collection of historic and famous cars.
The New Forest Heritage Centre (11 miles) - holds galleries featuring different aspects of New Forest wildlife as well as taking you back through its rich history
The Dinosaur Museum (39 miles) - is a real treat for the kids taking you back millions of years to prehistoric times.
Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (6 miles) - holds the finest collection of fully restored motorcycles in Europe
St Barbe Museum (13 miles) - allows you to explore the unique history of the New Forest Coast and Lymington Quay including the Salt Water Baths.
