Meet Jake, Our Outdoor Learning Guide

Jake took part in our apprenticeship scheme many years ago and is now one of our Senior Outdoor Learning Instructors.

The value of an Outdoor Learning Apprenticeship

Here at Avon Tyrrell outdoor activity centre, we can offer inspiring apprenticeships  in Outdoor Learning. 

The UK Youth apprenticeship scheme lasts two years, and gives apprentices the opportunity to experience, learn and develop – gaining skills, qualifications, and the confidence to run a variety of outdoor activities. 

We’re incredibly fortunate to have Jake as part of our Outdoor learning team. Jake took part in our apprenticeship scheme many years ago and is now one of our Senior Outdoor Learning Instructors. 

Let us tell you a little more about Jakes experience of our apprenticeship scheme. It all began on a Prince’s Trust residential work placement trip to Avon Tyrrell, where he ‘fell in love with the outdoors’, and spent the week asking, ‘many questions to our Outdoor Learning team’, with thoughts flooding his mind of having a job here – where he realised ‘how inclusive everything and everyone was at Avon Tyrrell. Jake then packed his bags, moved away from home, and started a new chapter here in the New Forest. 

We asked Jake why he’d encourage you to apply for the scheme, he said: “it was more than just a new industry of work – it was a huge life learning curve!’ The apprenticeship scheme at Avon Tyrrell outdoor learning centre has the all the support and guidance you need to succeed, you’ll also be experiencing a programme of excellence’, which really makes it something special.”
