The exact format of the day will vary depending on the numbers and interests of those attending, but a provisional programme is outlined below:
- Arrival & Welcome
- Site Tour – This will provide a chance to look around the site and chat with members of staff in the area you have registered an interest in
- Activities - A chance to try one or two 45 min activity sessions to explore what we do
To help us provide you with the best possible experience we encourage everyone to arrive at the start of the requested slot, but if this is not possible please let us know either as part of the booking information provided, or by contacting us at apprenticeships@ukyouth.org. Please note, there will be plenty of time after each slot to informally chat with the staff and a representative from our apprenticeship provider, Locomotivation, so please bear this in mind when making your travel plans.
Here are a few reflections from some of our current apprenticeship:
“The last five months have been a whirlwind of new information, new friends, new fears, new experiences” – Logan
"I like helping young people to learn new skills, develop and just get outside and have fun"- Nathan
“I love being outdoors and meeting lots of new people, helping them build their confidence” - Maya
Regardless of the opportunity you would like to explore as part of the open day you will get chance to hear from the staff that work here about what it is really like and experience some of the activities our guests enjoy.
The day is free of charge, but booking is essential, so please secure your place here
Getting here
Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre is location between the villages of Burley and Bransgore – for more information please visit our find us page
Please be aware access via public transport is very limited
On the day
Please arrive at our main reception where staff will be available to get you registered
Once you arrive you will be able to sign up to any of the sessions that appeal to you and you will get a full site tour from a member of our staff, so you know your way around
Bringing someone with you
Parents and friends are welcome to attend with you, but sessions will only be available for those that have signed up to participate in the day. A welcome tent with refreshments will be set up for guests and they are welcome to remain on site throughout your session or explore one of the local new forest villages and collect you at the end
Do I need to stay for the whole time?
We have sessions running 10-12 and 12.30-2.30, but you are welcome to stay as long or as little as suits your personal circumstance. If you have any commitments, you think we should be aware of, including travel plans, please feel free to share this information in the any other info question so we can support you as best we can.
What if I can no longer attend?
Numbers are limited so please do let us know if your plans change or you are no longer able to attend so we can offer the opportunity to someone else.
What if I have access needs?
We pride ourselves on being an accessible venue but as a Grade I building and natural outdoor space there are some limitations, so please contact us in advance on 01425 672347 to discuss your needs as this will allow us to ensure we have any specialist access equipment you may require available to you or will mean we can adapt the way we share information with you on the day.
Is accommodation provided as part of the apprenticeship?
Yes, onsite accommodation is available for all our apprentices, it is completely optional and there is no charge to live on site for the first year. After 12 months you will be charged rent at the current rate which is currently £35pw. You will get chance to see the staff accommodation as part of the site tour on the day as well as be able to ask staff who work here what it is like to live onsite.
When will the apprenticeship start?
We are looking to start our next cohort in September or October so this will work perfectly if you are just finishing your studies and want some time to relax before starting your next adventure.
